Local – [ [Crime, Business] ] Khairpur National Highway FBR raid on trailer, 800 bags of cement without sales tax recovered

In a significant operation near Shah Hussain Bypass today, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) seized a trailer carrying 800 bags of cement that were avoiding sales tax obligations, raising concerns about potential damage to the national treasury.

Assistant Director Liaquat Ali Sohoo, leading the operation, revealed that his team acted on a tip-off regarding a local entity involved in the cement business operating without fulfilling sales tax requirements. The confiscation of the trailer and its illegal goods highlights ongoing efforts against tax evasion in the region.

Sohoo emphasized that the seized bags of cement could be reclaimed upon payment of due sales tax, demonstrating FBR’s commitment to enforcing tax laws and safeguarding public revenue.

This incident highlights the widespread issue of tax evasion in the construction materials sector, prompting calls for increased oversight and regulatory measures. FBR’s intervention serves as a reminder to businesses of the legal obligations that must be adhered to and clarifies the consequences of non-compliance.
