Sepco WAPDA employees took to the streets of Khairpur today in a massive protest against the proposed privatization of their institution. Participants marched from the WAPDA office to the Khairpur Press Club, strongly rejecting the government’s privatization plans.
Key union figures leading the march included Divisional Chairman Lala Nizakat Pathan, Tariq Mahboob Awan, Faraz Channa, and Tahseen Soomro. These leaders highlighted their stance against privatization, which they view as a threat to public institutions, and emphasized their commitment to resisting any steps towards privatization.
During his address, Lala Nizakat Pathan termed the privatization move as an attack on fundamental institutions. Along with other speakers, he stressed the dedication of WAPDA employees who are willing to put their safety at risk to make the institution viable and profitable.
Union leaders demanded the federal government review and withdraw the privatization proposal. They issued a stern warning that protests would escalate if the plan was not abandoned, indicating a broader movement in the near future.
This rally highlights the growing tension and dissatisfaction among WAPDA workers, reflecting a significant challenge to the federal government’s economic reform agenda.
