LUMS Programme Equips Regional Professionals with Advanced Filmmaking Skills

A documentary filmmaking programme has concluded at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), designed to strengthen the storytelling and media production skills of professionals from Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and other remote districts situated away from major provincial centres.

According to a statement issued today, the official photographer for the University of Turbat (UoT), Mr. Dosta Shah, was among the professionals who completed the intensive five-day course.

Titled ‘Many Places, Many Stories,’ the training session was held from 22 to 26 December 2025. It was organised under the Cultivating Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) Project, which operates in collaboration with the Association for Asian Studies (AAS) and is financed by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA).

For his performance during the training, Mr. Shah was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation.

In a statement, UoT Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Gul Hasan commented on the achievement, expressing the institution”s expectation that Mr. Shah will utilise these enhanced skills to produce documentaries and promotional videos. These productions are intended to chronicle the university”s academic development, research milestones, and regional impact.

The curriculum spanned the entire documentary lifecycle, from initial conceptualisation and narrative development to advanced shooting and editing techniques.

Instruction was provided by a panel of filmmakers and mentors that included Haya Fatima Iqbal, Faizan Ahmad, Anya Raza, Dr. Furrukh Khan, and Husain Qaizar Yunus.
