Major attempt to smuggle liquor foiled

The Excise and Anti-Narcotics Department, South Zone Balochistan, on Friday claimed to have foiled a major attempt to smuggle liquor during an operation conducted in the Gadani area of District Hub, in coordination with the Pakistan Navy.

Acting on the directives of Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Ahmed Bugti and Chief Secretary Shakeel Qadir Khan, and in line with the provincial government’s anti-narcotics policy, the department carried out the intelligence-based operation under the supervision of Director General Excise and Anti-Narcotics (South Zone), Muhammad Zaman.

During the operation, officials recovered 3,717 bottles of foreign liquor. Legal and departmental proceedings have been initiated in accordance with the law regarding the seized items.

Director General Muhammad Zaman said the success was part of a continued series of sustained, effective, and result-oriented operations by the department.

He added that in recent days, in collaboration with the Pakistan Navy, the department had also recovered 425 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine (ice), 20 kilograms of hashish, and 5,076 bottles of foreign liquor and beer, with seizures worth approximately PKR 31 billion.

He further stated that, over the past three months, narcotics worth PKR 25 billion had been seized, along with more than 10,000 bottles of liquor and beer, causing significant financial losses to international smuggling networks.
