Major Remedial Therapy Programme Launched for Federal Students with Learning Difficulties

In a significant move to address learning disabilities within the educational system, the federal government has initiated a comprehensive programme to provide remedial therapy services across all institutions managed by the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE), fulfilling a key mandate of the Dyslexia Bill 2022.

The landmark initiative was formalised through a contract signing ceremony hosted by the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training (MoFEand PT). The collaboration cements a partnership with the National Institute of Psychology (NIP) Centre of Excellence, which operates under Quaid e Azam University, according to information today.

Prof. Dr. Rubina Hanif, Director of NIP, finalised the agreement in the presence of senior government figures, including the Federal Minister for Education, Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, and the Secretary of MoFEPT, Nadeem Mahbub, along with other FDE officials.

The programme will deploy a specialised team of 60 Remedial Therapists and three expert coordinators to deliver critical interventions. Their responsibilities will include conducting diagnostic testing and providing evidence-based therapeutic support for students identified with learning difficulties.

This project aims to establish a sustainable framework by integrating professional psychological care with teacher capacity-building, ensuring that students with varied educational requirements can achieve their full potential within the formal school system.
