Mayor Accuses Opposition of Theatrics as Protest Cuts Short Session on Karachi Incident

A planned City Council session intended to address an “unfortunate incident” was abruptly shortened today following what Mayor Murtaza Wahab described as a pre-planned protest by members of Jamaat-e-Islami.

In a statement released on the social media platform X, the mayor asserted that while the administration intended to discuss the recent event in detail, the session was curtailed due to the opposition”s actions.

The mayor contended that the legislative council has consistently aimed to resolve civic matters with a sense of responsibility. He accused his colleagues in Jamaat-e-Islami of refusing to engage in constructive politics, claiming they resort solely to censure and condemnation.

According to Wahab, the opposition party levels accusations without conducting due diligence, citing their failure to verify which municipal town or union council falls under the relevant administrative authority before making claims.

The statement detailed that opposition members arrived at the venue equipped with placards and banners, and began chanting slogans even before the session could formally commence.

Concluding his remarks, the mayor lamented the use of “theatrics,” emphasizing that political efforts should be channeled towards the progress of Karachi rather than public spectacle.
