Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab on Friday inaugurated a new batch of CSS Corner at Frere Hall, stressing the importance of civic responsibility, inclusive education, and heritage preservation during his address as chief guest at the event.
He remarked that the society and city which gave recognition and identity must be served with sincerity. ‘We must work collectively for a better future for our next generation,’ he noted.
Mayor Wahab emphasized that progress depends on fulfilling responsibilities alongside demanding rights. He acknowledged the role of teachers, parents, and society in individual success and praised institutions like CSS Corner that operate on selfless principles to uplift aspiring students.
He stated that higher education is a right for all, regardless of social background, and that knowledge must remain accessible. ‘Many children from underprivileged backgrounds are now joining the civil service and serving the country with distinction,’ he observed.
The Mayor also underlined the need to protect and promote Karachi’s historical heritage. He noted ongoing restoration work at Frere Hall, Khaliq Dina Hall, the KMC Building, and Denso Hall, affirming that these public spaces are part of the city’s collective trust and should be open for cultural events and community engagement.
Referring to the legacy of celebrated artists like Sadequain, Gulgee, and Iqbal Mehdi, Wahab encouraged youth to nurture creativity and tolerance, and to contribute positively to society. He announced plans to personally teach CSS aspirants once a month on subjects like Law and Public Administration, inviting students to engage in dialogue.
Deputy Commissioner Central and CSS Corner CEO Taha Saleem briefed the audience on the initiative, stating that CSS Corner offers free education purely on merit-contrasting with private academies that charge significant fees. Since its inception in December 2019, more than 60 students have passed the CSS exam through the program.
Saleem announced that classes for the 2026 CSS exam have now commenced, with lectures to be delivered by senior bureaucrats, professors, and policy experts. He also revealed that CSS Corner operates three branches across the city: Frere Hall, Markaz Islami Ayesha Manzil, and Model Library Korangi No. 5.
Renowned media figure Sultana Siddiqui urged students to remain committed to their goals, emphasizing service to others as a greater purpose in life. Tariq Mustafa encouraged the new entrants to seize this opportunity to shape their future.
The event concluded with the launch of CSS Corner’s official website and the presentation of commemorative shields to Barrister Murtaza Wahab, Sultana Siddiqui, Faizan Dhedhi, and Tariq Fawad.
