Meeting on arrangements of Muharram-ul-Haram

Karachi, September 04, 2018 (PPI-OT): Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar presided over a meeting on the arrangements of Muharram-ul-Haram in KMC Building on Monday which was attended by renowned religious leaders and scholars belonging to all schools of thoughts and organizers of Muharram gatherings and processions besides Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Syed Saif ur Rehan, D.I.G South Javed Alam Odho, DMC Central Chairman Rehan Hashi, DMC West Chairman Izhar Ahmed Khan, City Council Parliamentary leader Aslam Shah Afridi, district municipal commissioners chairmen and members of city council Karachi committees and KMC officers.

Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar said arrangements have been made for the cleanliness and repair of sewerage lines around Imambargahs and roads during Muharramul Haram , emphasis was given on cleanliness of roads particularly M A Jinnah road. He said SOP or contingency plan has been prepared with the suggestions of ulemas Mayor intervened while the meeting was in progress said 75 percent of the budget is used for the repair of sewerage lines and there was no finance available with KMC. The sewerage lines repair was the responsibility of KWSB road patch work is being done with limited funds and resources.

He said he was doing small works like road repair and lacs of square feet roads have been carpeted opposite various Imambargahs in the city these are the work done and ongoing works was in progress. He said he is unable to do mega projects as well as build infrastructure of Karachi and give relief to the citizens. Mayor Karachi said that Karachi city which generates highest revenue its mayor was unable to build ruined infrastructure of Karachi.

During the meeting Allama Abbas Kameli of Jafferia Alliance, Moulana Akbar Dars, Syed Akhtar Abbas Zaidi, Haji Hanif Tayyeb, Syed Baqar Hussain, Mufti Bilal, Moulana Sajid Jaffery, Dr. Jamil Rathore, Moulana Umer Sadiq, Ali Karrar Naqvi, Imran Ahmed Salfi and others expressed their views and presented various problems facing by different areas of the city. They also demanded solution of such problems regarding water and sewerage system, broken roads and streets, street lights repair and maintenance and sanitation arrangements.

Ulemas addressing the Muharram meeting said funds be released for DMCs and KMC so that they could work before Moharram. Earlier while welcoming the participants in the meeting the Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Syed Saif ur Rehman said KMC Fire Brigade, city warden will be deployed to control traffic during 9th and tenth Muharram. He said all works will be completed for the central procession at M A Jinnah road.

He said there was a complete coordination with KWDB, Sindh Solid Waste Management board (SSWMB) and K electric to fulfill their responsibilities during Muharram. Dr Saif Ur Rehman said on the suggestions of ulemas KMC with KWSB coordination has chalked out a contingency plan to repair all sewerage lines all faulty lines be repaired. Keeping in view the suggestions given by Ulemas , Mayor said we will ensure for peace during Muharam and will continue to make Karachi a cradle of peace. Mayor Karachi said before Ramazan a contingency plan has been chalked out to observe Muharram with religious fervour and harmony. He said with the joint collaboration of district administration and all six DMCs and ulemas Moharram will be observed.

Mayor Karachi appreciated the ulemas demand that funds are not available with DMCs than how could do work during Muharram Sindh government should provide funds. The Ulemas demanded that Sindh Government should provide funds to KMC and DMCs. They also demanded that SSWMB ,KWSB, KDA and SBCA be give under Mayor Karachi. Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar thanked the participants in the meeting and said the importance of inter faith and inter-sect harmony and unity becomes twofold during the holy month of Muharram, we need to help each other for maintenance of law and order condition and progress of this city. All problems regarding arrangements of Muharram processions and religious gatherings will be solved through mutual coordination.
