Meeting to expedite work on Railway Freight Corridor in Karachi

Islamabad, February 21, 2019 (PPI-OT): “Ministers in the incumbent government are vigilant, hardworking and honest in their duty. This how the leadership of Imran Khan will bring change. From dawn to dusk, I am trying my best to transform Maritime operations of Pakistan into effective, efficient and at par with international standards” observed Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Ali Zaidi. “Among many feathers in our cap including, Night Navigation at Port Qasim, a drive against corruption and the docking of two LNG ships-not once, but twice-at the same tide and day at Port Qasim, The Railway Freight corridor is going to be a promising opportunity for both of the ministries-maritime and railways-to facilitate the business community”.

The Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs called on Federal Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed yesterday in Islamabad. Chairman, Port Qasim, Asad Rafi Chandna, Chairman Pakistan National Shipping Corporation Rizwan Ahmed and member advisory council Ministry of Maritime Affairs Mahmood Maulvi also accompanied the Minister in the meeting. Framework to expedite the work on Railway Freight Corridor was agreed upon at the meeting. The said corridor is a part of MOUs signed last week in the visits conducted by the Minister at the Karachi Port Trust.

Karachi Port Trust will prepare the feasibility reports of the project and get its approval from Board. Work on the project will commence after the approval. Efficient freight movement to and from the ports is extremely important to facilitate imports and exports. The current hindrances are due to negligence of the previous governments who tried to fudge the figures and pocket commission through useless projects. The current government is clear in its vision to facilitate the business community to revamp exports. The said goal is only possible by cooperation among government organizations.
