Dealers from Pakistan’s largest motorcycle auto parts market on M.A. Jinnah Road have announced a sit-in protest against persistent electricity load shedding.
The All Pakistan Motorcycle Spare Parts Importers and Dealers Association (APMSPIDA) warned that they would block the main road if K-Electric does not resolve the issue.
MSPIDA Chairman Sohail Usman, alongside Vice Chairman Ijaz Usman and Public Utilities Committee Chairman Nasir Maqbool, expressed their frustration over receiving only four hours of electricity daily despite full bill payments. Dealers from Orangi Market, Taj Mahal Market, Saira Mansion, and Shirazi Market joined the call for an uninterrupted power supply.
Usman highlighted that the market’s shopkeepers face significant business disruptions and hardships due to the power outages. The prolonged load shedding also raises security concerns as criminal activities increase during the dark hours.
The MSPIDA leaders have attempted to address the issue with K-Electric multiple times over the past year, but no effective measures have been implemented. They acknowledged the support of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry leaders in advocating for their cause and facilitating a visit by NEPRA representatives, who promised an end to load shedding.
Despite these assurances, the dealers remain skeptical and insist on immediate action from K-Electric to avert the planned protest and road blockade.
