Inspector General (IG) National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP), B.A. Nasir, convened a high-level meeting to address the flood crisis impacting national highways. Regional and Zonal Commanders, along with senior officers, gathered at the Central Police Office, Islamabad, on Friday to assess the situation and formulate a response plan. Officials apprised the IG of current highway conditions and anticipated difficulties. A comprehensive strategy for traffic control and public safety was also presented.
The IG stressed that commuter well-being is paramount. He instructed officers to prioritize their own safety while demonstrating empathy and support for flood-affected individuals. He mandated the distribution of essential supplies, including nourishment, potable water, medical aid, and relief materials to those impacted.
Nasir directed that patrol cars in flood-stricken regions be equipped with first aid kits for immediate medical intervention. He also emphasized the importance of identifying alternate routes to maintain traffic movement. The IG urged prompt communication regarding road closures and detours.
He instructed supervisory personnel to maintain a field presence for effective oversight and advocated for close collaboration with district authorities and related organizations for rescue and relief operations. The IG lauded the dedication of NHMP officers and encouraged them to maintain their commitment to public service and safety during this challenging period.
