Muggers taking advantage of the night power outage by K-Electric in North Karachi Industrial Area

Karachi, June 28, 2019 (PPI-OT): Muggers taking advantage of the night power outage by K-Electric in North Karachi Industrial Area, wire stealing incident occurred sweeping electrical cables from almost 40 industries, affecting production process of the industry, ultimately jeopardizing the timely delivery of export orders and commitments. Leaders of NKATI, Captain A Moiz Khan and President Syed Tariq Rashid, demanded K-Electric to install cables in the affected industry and eradicate load shedding on priority basis. Additionally, demanding Karachi Police Chief to take notice of the event and to extend day and night shifts of their personnel.

Due to power outage in the area by K-Electric, muggers and thieves had become ambulant taking advantage of the dark pitched nights and stealing cables away from the industries. Industries are being loaded with power outage from 12:30 am to 6.30 am providing full advantage of night-time, unidentified thieves snipped electric wires from almost 40 industries from meters to the electricity supply line. Affected industries had spent their past week griping about rolling power cuts, the outages proved a blessing for cable thieves, who were able to work during the blackouts without fear of electrocution. Due to which the production process was affected, while completion of export orders are also expected to be delayed.

Capt. A. Moiz Khan, Patron-in-Chief of North Karachi Association of Trade and Industry (NKATI), Syed Tariq Rashid, President, Muhammad Naseem Akhtar, Chairman Sub Committee and Members of the Executive Committee and Members of the industry, expressed their serious concern over theft of industries’ electricity wires. They have requested enforcement agencies to immediately increase the patrolling in the night time.

Addressing the meeting of affected industrialists in Association, NKATI leaders said that the occurring events of cable theft has adversely affected the production activities and process for the next 12 hours, industrialists are facing financial losses as the K-electric does not provide any wire for free and burden of the cost of wire has to be borne them by paying the price of the wire in addition the cost of production delays and the expiry of export orders.

Captain A. Moiz Khan and President Tariq Rashid demanded that K-Electric should eliminate load shedding in the industry ensuring the uninterrupted supply of electricity also wires from meters to supply lines to be installed on priority basis in the affected industries so that production activities in export industries can be resumed.

The NAKTI leaders, has requested Dr. Amir Shaikh, Karachi Police Chief of his kind attention on the subject matter of theft and crime incidents in North Karachi Industrial Area and demanding that police patrolling should be increased in the industrial area at day and night times to ensure safety and security of our industrialist by taking full necessary measures.
