NA Standing Committee on Interior meets

Islamabad, May 25, 2023 (PPI-OT): The 49th meeting of the Standing Committee on Interior was held on the 24th May 2023, today, under the Chairmanship of Ahmed Hussain Deharr, MNA, in the Conference Room of the NADRA Headquarters, Islamabad.

The Committee took on extensive agenda varying from Bills to Calling Attention Notices, Points of Order, Questions, and other matters referred to it, relevant to multiple Wings/Departments of the Ministry of Interior. After the detailed discussion on Public Importance Bills, the Committee recommended that the Bills titled “The Naturalization (Amendment) Bill, 2022, the Code of Criminal Procedure (Amendment) Bill, 2021 Section-376, and the Pakistan Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2022 (Section-14A) may be passed by the National Assembly.

The Committee agreed that the four points shared by Ms. Asiya Azeem, MNA, mover of the Private Bill on the same subject, be considered for incorporating in the Islamabad Capital Territory Criminal Prosecution Service (Constitution, Functions and Powers) Bill, 2022 and the be placed again.

The Committee proposed recommended that Criminal Laws (Amendment), Bill 2020, (Section 297 Moved by Choudhary Faqir Ahmad, MNA) related to prohibition of magic, which craft and sorcery be passed. The Committee also deliberated on the Calling Attention Notice moved by Ms. Asiya Azeem MNA, regarding Sale and Lease of Commercial Buildings for the Residential Purposes without completion Certificate and encroachments, in Islamabad and decided to take up matter with CDA Management, through Ministry of Interior.

The Committee also discussed the matter moved by another Member Ms. Aliya Kamran MNA, regarding the issues of water taping, leakage of rain water from the roofs and walls of the Parliament Lodges; the Committee directed the CDA, Authorities to resolve the matter urgently and report to the Committee. The Committee recommended that the Govt. of Punjab to take strict action against the Officer responsible for the death of many children, incidents were occurred (2018 to June, 2022) due to non-admission of Children below the age of 6 years, in the Pak-Italian Burn Centre, NMU, Multan.

The meeting was attended by the Honourable Members; Ms. Asiya Azeem, Rana Shamim Ahmed Khan, Mr. Nawab Sher, Dr. Zulfiqar Ali Bhatti and Syeda Nosheen Iftikhar; and Movers Syed Javed Hasnain, Choudhary Faqir Ahmad, Moulana Abdul Akbar Chitrali, Mr. Qadir Khan Mandokhail, Ms. Aliya Kamran, Ms. Zahra Wadood Fatemi and Dr. Samina Matloob. Secretary, M/o Interior and Senior Officers from the Ministry, Ministry of Law and Justice, CDA and its attached Wings FIA, NADRA (Chairman and Officers), NACTA, also attended the meeting.
