In a significant move against corruption, today NAB Karachi formally handed over properties worth 348 million rupees to the State Office of the Government of Pakistan. These assets were originally seized from Abdul Aziz, a former Member of the National Assembly, and his wife for their corruption and possession of assets beyond known sources of income.
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Karachi initiated proceedings under legal action number 44/2001, which culminated in a decisive verdict in the Accountability Court Karachi on June 28, 2002. The court sentenced the couple to seven years of rigorous imprisonment, imposed a fine of one million rupees each, and ordered the confiscation of four properties.
Despite their appeals in the Sindh High Court and later in the Supreme Court of Pakistan, the decisions were upheld, resulting in NAB Karachi obtaining possession of the seized properties.
On July 6, 2026, a ceremony was held at NAB Karachi to formalize the transfer of these assets to the State Office under the Ministry of Housing and Works. NAB Karachi’s Director General Mr. Shakeel Ahmed Durrani handed over the possession of the properties to the State’s Director General Mr. Ubaiduddin.
During the ceremony, Mr. Durrani highlighted NAB’s commitment to recovering funds obtained through corruption and channeling them to the affected sectors and citizens. He pointed out that under the leadership of NAB Chairman Lieutenant General (Retired) Nazir Ahmed, the Bureau is working with determination and professionalism in its mission to combat corruption.
These actions underline NAB’s commitment to ensuring accountability, recovering misused public funds, and serving the nation’s interests.
