National Assembly Standing Committee on Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit Baltistan meets 

Islamabad, August 23, 2021 (PPI-OT):The National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan expresses its support towards Pakistan’s stance to continue providing all possible support to the Kashmiri people until they achieve their legitimate right of self- determination.

8th meeting of the Standing Committee on Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan held today at 11:00 a.m. in the Parliament House, Islamabad, under the Chairmanship of Rana Shamim Ahmed Khan, MNA. The Additional Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, briefed the Committee on Pakistan’s policy concerning Kashmir and steps taken by the Government to seek support from the International Community on the matter.

The Committee noted that the unilateral and illegal steps taken by India on 5th of August, 2019, were in clear violation of United Nations Security Council’s Resolutions, bilateral agreements and international law including the 4th Geneva Convention; particularly Articles 27 and 49. Therefore, the Committee expressed its full support towards Pakistan’s stance to continue providing all possible support to the Kashmiri people until they achieve their legitimate right of self-determination.

The Committee also considered “The Jammu and Kashmir (administration of Property) (Amendment Bill), 2021”. The honourable Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan briefed the Committee about the objects and reasons for bringing the proposed amendment in the existing law.

He held that the legislation in question was being done in pursuance to the directions of the honourable Supreme Court of Pakistan and the same would help bringing ease in disposal of issues concerning properties.

The Committee unanimously recommended the Bill to be passed by the National Assembly. While reviewing the implementation report on its previous recommendations, the Committee was informed by the Ministry that a considerable number of development schemes worth billions of rupees were being carried out under the Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) for the year 2021-22 in Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan Province. Apart from that, seven special development projects worth billions of rupees will also be undertaken by the Federal

Government under the Prime Minister’s package in different parts of the Gilgit-Baltistan Province. The Committee decided to visit Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan in near future in order to oversee the on-ground physical progress of the projects. Besides the honourable Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan, the meeting was attended by Mr. Mehboob Shah, Mr. Muhammad Bashir Khan, Makhdoom Syed Sami-ul-Hassan Gillani, Mr. Niaz Ahmed Jakhar, Ms. Rubina Jamil, Ms. Ghazala Saifi, Mr. Jamshed Thomas, Syed Imran Ahmed Shah, Mr. Nasir Iqbal Bosal, Nawabzada Iftikhar Ahmed Khan Babar and Ms. Shamim Ara Panhwar, MNAs/ Members. The senior officers of Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Kashmir Affairs and amp; Gilgit-Baltistan were also present in the meeting.
