National Grid Company Athletes Secure 39 Medals at 35th National Games

Athletes from the National Grid Company of Pakistan (NGC) achieved a significant victory at the 35th National Games 2025, securing a total of 39 medals. Competing under the WAPDA banner, the contingent earned 10 gold, 13 silver, and 16 bronze medals during the event held in Karachi from December 6 to 13.

According to information from National Transmission and Despatch Company today, in individual and pair events, the badminton team demonstrated exceptional skill. Mahoor Shehzad secured two gold medals and a silver, while Ali Larosh obtained two silver medals. The duo of Ali Larosh and Awais Zahid added a gold and a silver medal to the tally. Further contributions in badminton came from Ms. Farzana with a bronze, and the pair of Ms. Saima and Ms. Farzana, who earned one gold and one bronze.

Other individual disciplines saw strong results, with Awais Sajjad capturing a gold medal in bodybuilding and Yasir Sultan taking home a silver in the javelin throw.

The company”s athletes also excelled in combat sports. Boxer Amir Khan won a gold medal, with Jehanzaib Khan and Sana Ullah each earning bronze. In judo, Mahsam Nazakat, Ms. Ambreen, and Sonam Barkat all secured silver medals, complemented by bronze medal performances from Sabir Shah, Ms. Maryam, and Yousaf Riaz. The karate team, consisting of Ahtisham Hussain and Ibrahim, clinched a gold medal.

Further accolades were won across a range of sports. Hanzala Dastgir Butt earned a gold medal in weightlifting, with teammate Haider Ali securing a bronze. In table tennis, Saadia Falak Sher collected both a silver and a bronze medal. The swimming events saw Taimor Shahzad and Ali Sher each win bronze medals, and wrestler Mohsin Ali added another bronze to the collection.

NGC players were instrumental in the success of several team sports. Salman Butt was a member of the gold medal-winning WAPDA basketball team. In football, NGC athletes Ashfaq-ud-Din, Muhammad Waqas, Muhammad Haroon, Hamad Hassan, and Sohail Shabbir contributed to the men”s team securing a bronze, while the women’s team earned a silver.

In hockey, Hamra Latif was part of the women’s team that won gold, and Tazeem-ul-Hassan helped the men”s team to a bronze. The WAPDA softball team, with NGC-associated coach Malik Farhan Rashid, secured a silver medal.

The medal run continued in other team competitions. The netball team, featuring a notable performance from NGC’s Haris Kamal, won a bronze. Bilal Haider contributed to the rugby team”s silver medal finish. In volleyball, the women’s team claimed silver and the men’s team took bronze, with NGC players Jan Muhammad and Muhammad Umer and coaches Muhammad Bashir and Muhammad Yaseen Siddique contributing to the success.

In a statement, Managing Director NGC, Engr. Altaf Hussain Malik, along with President of the NGC Sports Association, Engr. Dr. Khawaja Riffat Hassan, formally congratulated the athletes on their performance. They expressed confidence that the players would continue to bring accolades to both the company and the nation in future domestic and international events.
