New Feeder Route From karachi Aims to Bolster Pakistan’s Global Trade Links

Pakistan today initiated a new feeder shipping service connecting Karachi Port with key hubs in the United Arab Emirates, a strategic move designed to enhance the nation”s transshipment capabilities and secure its trade links amid shifting regional shipping dynamics. Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, made the announcement on Friday.

In a statement, the minister detailed that Karachi Gateway Terminal (Private) Limited (KGTL), a primary business partner of Karachi Port Trust (KPT), will be supported by the dedicated service. This new route establishes a regular maritime link between Karachi and the UAE ports of Fujairah and Khor Fakkan, which serve as two of the region’s principal transshipment hubs.

Mr Chaudhry confirmed that the service”s inaugural vessel arrived at KGTL, which is part of AD Ports Group’s international operational division, Noatum Ports, on the evening of 11 March, formally commencing regular operations.

According to the minister, the feeder connection is vital for maintaining supply chain continuity through KGTL and ensuring Pakistani trade retains dependable access to international markets. Cargo transiting through Fujairah and Khor Fakkan is expected to benefit from seamless onward connections, leveraging the UAE”s advanced logistics infrastructure, including integrated road and rail corridors to major commercial centres.

Echoing the minister”s sentiments, Rear Admiral Shahid Ahmed (Retd.), Chairman of Karachi Port Trust, stated that the introduction of the service enhances the port’s connectivity and supports Pakistan”s expanding trade requirements. He added that stronger maritime links with the UAE will facilitate smoother cargo movement and provide greater flexibility for the nation’s trading community.

Khurram Aziz Khan, Chief Executive Officer of KGTL, remarked that the service’s commencement demonstrates his organisation”s ongoing commitment to bolstering Pakistan”s maritime connectivity. “By linking Karachi directly with major UAE transshipment hubs, this service provides importers and exporters with reliable access to global shipping networks while reinforcing the role of Karachi Gateway Terminal as a key gateway for international trade,” he said.

In his concluding remarks, Minister Chaudhry emphasised the critical role of maritime trade for Pakistan”s economy, noting that improved connectivity with regional hubs offers additional resilience for the country’s exporters, importers, and overall supply chains.
