NICVD performs first TEVAR successfully

KARACHI:National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases has achieved another milestone by performing first “Thoracic Endovascular Aneurysm Repair” (TEVAR) on a 30 years old man, successfully.

The Spokesperson of NICVD said that after motorcycle accident, the patients was taken to SMBB Trauma Centre Karachi, where he was told that it a major aortic injury.

After that the patient was referred to NICVD where he was investigated and it was decided to treat the patient with a world’s latest technique instead of bypass by joint efforts of Interventional Cardiologists, Cardiac Surgeons and Cardiac Anesthesiologists.

The procedure was led by Prof Tahir Saghir, Cardiac Surgeon Rashid Aziz, Dr Naveedullah and other doctors of NICVD. The doctors said that by the grace of Almighty Allah, the procedure had been done successfully and the patient is recovering and will be discharged within few days.
