No Money for Terror Ministerial Conference, Melbourne

Canberra, November 15, 2019 (PPI-OT): The Australian Government hosted an International Conference on “No Money for Terror”, in Melbourne from 07-08 November 2019. Delegations from 70 countries across the globe, participated in the conference.

The Ministerial Conference focused on efforts made by the global community in combatting Terror Financing. The Conference discussed the global efforts to curb terror financing under six thematic areas of international cooperation, including NPOs, Virtual currencies and the role of Public Private Partnership in effectively curbing the menace of terror financing.

High Commissioner Babar Amin led Pakistan’s delegation to the Conference. In his intervention, the High Commissioner highlighted Pakistan’s role in curbing Terror Financing and putting in place risk-based controls and measures to combat the entire terrorism related paraphernalia. The High Commissioner also had a brief chat with Australian Home Minister Peter Dutton on the sidelines of the Conference and informed him about the outcomes of the Pakistan – Australia JWG meeting on Border Management and Transnational Crime, held earlier this year. The “No Money for Terror” is an annual Conference, initiated by France in the year 2018. This was the second Conference on the subject.
