PESHAWAR: Special Assistant to Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) for Information and Public Relations Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif on Saturday said that no wheat smuggling has been reported from KP to neighboring country.

Provincial Food department has established two checks posts in addition to already established check posts by FC, FIA and Customs but no smuggling of wheat to Afghanistan has been reported.

Barrister Saif, while commenting on a news story said KP food department has a very robust control system. Wheat and flour supply is monitored through a digital system on daily basis. He said, International Borders between Afghanistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are being managed by federal agencies like customs, FIA, and FC etc. and have been fenced. It is responsibility of these agencies to stop smuggling of wheat, if there any, he added.

Barrister Saif said, inter provincial borders between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab and KP and Baluchistan are also sealed. “Only legal transportation of wheat and flour is allowed through these borders”, he added. Barrister Saif emphasized that the demand of KP market and trade from Punjab is checked at every level and smuggling across the international borders is not possible.

Barrister Saif said the federal government has tried to give a wrong impression through a news story referring to KP government to curb wheat smuggling. Instead of political point scoring, the KP government would urge sincerity towards the uplift and benefit of people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
