NPMC analyzes price hike in essential commodities

Islamabad, October 06, 2020 (PPI-OT): The National Price Monitoring Committee (NPMC) has called upon the Provincial Administrations to remain vigilant and control the prices of essential commodities including tomato, potato, wheat, and sugar through strict price enforcement. These directions were issued during meeting of the Committee held in Islamabad, to discuss the reasons for increase in prices of essential commodities with particular focus on perishable items with the Special Secretary Finance in the chair.

The meeting said that focus should be to minimize price disparity between the wholesale and retail prices of the essential commodities, which leads to inflation. The meeting also urged Provincial Governments to take corrective measures to check undue profit margin on basic commodities.

The meeting was convened on the directions of the Prime Minister’s office to discuss the abnormal variation in the prices of perishable items such as tomatoes, potatoes, onions as well as other essential items like wheat, sugar and chicken.
