ISLAMABAD: Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDC) announced on Tuesday the successful start of oil production from its development well Pasakhi-13, marking a significant achievement as Pakistan's first successful horizontal oil well in a clastic reservoir.
According to Oil and Gas Development Company Limited, the Pasakhi-13 well, situated in the Hyderabad district of Sindh province, is currently producing 460 barrels of oil per day. Drilled to a measured depth of 2,966 meters, the well includes a 546-meter horizontal section. Advanced geo-steering technology facilitated precise navigation within a narrow three-meter drilling window, ensuring optimal placement within the reservoir's core area.
The completion and testing of the well involved a short string Electric Submersible Pump, tailored for horizontal well configurations. Despite challenging reservoir conditions, the horizontal drilling method has substantially increased reservoir exposure, leading to nearly three times higher production compared to nearby wells under similar circumstances.
Pasakhi-13 is part of the Pasakhi and Pasakhi North Development and Production Lease, with OGDC holding a 100% working interest. This development underscores OGDC's dedication to innovation and technical proficiency, utilizing advanced technologies that meet global standards. It also emphasizes the company's role in enhancing indigenous hydrocarbon production and supporting Pakistan's long-term energy security.
