OIC FMs adopt resolution to transform IINA into UNA; urge states to pay their contributions

Dhaka (UNA-OIC) The Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has adopted the resolution of the General Assembly of the International Islamic News Agency (IINA), held in Jeddah on 15 October 2018, on the transformation of the Agency into the Union of OIC News Agencies (UNA).

Wrapping up their 45th session in Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka on Sunday, the foreign ministers also called on the OIC member states to support the Union and to pay their contributions.

Meanwhile, the ministers expressed their deep appreciation of the initiative launched by Senegalese President Macky Sall, in his capacity as chairman of the Standing Committee for Information and Cultural Affairs (COMIAC), to institute an International Prize for outstanding media and media professionals for promoting dialogue, tolerance and intercultural harmony. They called on all member states and financial institutions of the OIC as well as relevant institutions of the Organization to provide their full support for this initiative, including moral and material support for the effective launch of the prize.

The foreign ministers also commended the media work carried out by the OIC General Secretariat to develop the capabilities of the media professionals, raise their awareness and improve their skills in the field of media.

The Council of Foreign Ministers further called on member states to promote media cooperation for peace, development and prosperity by highlighting and disseminating information on the achievements and success stories of the OIC countries in the socio-economic sectors, especially in areas covered by the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These include combating terrorism, climate change, humanitarian assistance, migration, disaster risk reduction and preparedness, gender and others.
