Karachi: The oil and gas sector experienced notable developments in April 2026, including two hydrocarbon discoveries and an increase in production levels, according to a recent report. The sector also saw a significant rise in exploratory well drilling, even as development well drilling decreased.
According to JS Global, the monthly activity report highlighted two hydrocarbon discoveries: Mari 127H, operated by MARI, and Kunar WIW, operated by OGDC. However, the sector also encountered challenges with two dry wells, Saidpur-1 and Chak203, both owned and operated by OGDC. Production of oil and gas rose by 8% and 12% month-over-month, respectively, due in part to a disruption in the supply of RLNG.
The report also revealed a 109% growth in exploratory well drilling, alongside modest increases in 2D and 3D seismic acquisition by 1% and 7%, respectively. Conversely, development well drilling saw a decline of 43%. These figures underscore the sector's shifting focus toward exploration in the face of evolving market dynamics.
