Pakistan has issued an urgent plea to the United Nations Security Council to revitalize peacekeeping operations, warning of a potential collapse of this critical multilateral instrument.

Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, Pakistan’s permanent envoy to the UN, addressed the Council during an open debate on the future of peace operations, highlighting his nation”s extensive contributions. He noted that over 250,000 Pakistani personnel have participated in 48 missions over the past seven decades, with 182 peacekeepers losing their lives in service.

Ambassador Ahmad emphasized the need for immediate action from the Security Council to avert the degradation of UN peacekeeping, describing it as one of multilateralism”s most effective mechanisms. He stressed the potential for the system to descend into ineffectiveness if not addressed.
