Pakistan Eyes Lithuanian Model for Export-Driven Economic Overhaul

Pakistan must adopt an export-driven economic strategy, mirroring Lithuania’s successful growth model, to achieve sustainable development, Federal Minister for Board of Investment (BOI), Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh, declared on Tuesday.

The minister’s remarks came during a significant meeting with Masud Khan, the Honorary Consul General of Lithuania. The discussion, also attended by former Pakistan Television (PTV) Director Rasheed Khan Niazi, centred on the nation”s economic outlook and diverse investment prospects.

The visiting dignitaries acknowledged the federal minister”s initiatives aimed at promoting investment and enhancing the country”s business climate.

Mr Sheikh underscored the critical role of active private sector participation in bolstering investment, fostering industrial development, and creating employment opportunities across the nation.

He briefed the attendees on key government measures designed to improve the ease of doing business, including the establishment of Special Economic Zones (SEZs), a new Business Facilitation Centre (BFC), and the implementation of the Asaan Karobar Act.

The federal minister also stressed the necessity of long-term policy planning, asserting that policy continuity is essential for maintaining economic stability and securing investor confidence.

Discussions also covered the provision of specific facilities and incentives for Overseas Pakistanis to encourage a greater influx of investment from the diaspora.

The minister affirmed that the government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, continues to pursue investment-friendly reforms to strengthen the national economy. He added that the Board of Investment remains fully committed to assisting investors and positioning Pakistan as a preferred destination for capital.
