Federal Minister for Communications, Abdul Aleem Khan, today announced a renewed commitment to developing an environmentally sound and technologically advanced transport system, emphasizing the nation”s strategy to foster economic growth while safeguarding the environment for future generations.
In a message marking World Sustainable Transport Day, the minister outlined a comprehensive vision for Pakistan”s national road network. He highlighted that as a crucial regional corridor, the country”s roads and highways are being re-envisioned as catalysts for sustainable development.
The Ministry of Communications, operating through the National Highway Authority (NHA), is embedding eco-friendly practices and improved design standards into its projects. This includes constructing climate-resilient infrastructure and implementing efficient traffic management systems to modernize the national transport framework.
Key objectives include creating energy-efficient highways, championing green mobility, and diminishing the environmental footprint of transportation operations. These efforts are designed to provide safer, quicker, and more dependable linkages for both the Pakistani populace and regional partners.
The minister referenced a recent commitment made at the CAREC Forum, where Pakistan endorsed the ‘Green and Digital CAREC’ vision. This initiative prioritizes sustainable corridors, intelligent transport solutions, and digitally-enabled infrastructure to bolster regional connectivity while minimizing carbon emissions.
Mr. Khan concluded by commending the engineers, planners, workers, and development partners whose dedicated efforts are modernizing Pakistan’s transport sector to align with global sustainability benchmarks.
