President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif today reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to global peace on the occasion of the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers.
In his address, President Zardari expressed solidarity with all UN peacekeepers striving for harmony and stability worldwide. He paid tribute to the 183 Pakistani peacekeepers who sacrificed their lives for international peace and security.
Highlighting Pakistan”s role, President Zardari noted that the country hosts one of the oldest UN peacekeeping missions, the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP). He emphasised that the mission”s ongoing presence underscores the global community”s responsibility to pursue a fair resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir conflict, in line with UN Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri populace.
Prime Minister Sharif, in a separate message, highlighted Pakistan”s sustained contributions as a testament to its commitment to international peace and multilateralism principles. He joined the global community in honouring the courage of those serving under the UN emblem.
The theme for this year”s observance, “Invest in Peace,” highlights the necessity for continuous political and financial commitment to foster enduring peace and safeguard human lives worldwide.
