Pakistan has criticized the inadequate global response to the escalating refugee crisis. During a Security Council briefing, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, emphasized the need for timely and predictable humanitarian and development support for countries hosting refugees.
He urged that this support be provided in the form of grants rather than loans. He appealed to donors to increase their funding to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to better address the growing displacement crisis.
Mr Ahmad highlighted the importance of aligning financial assistance with the scale of the challenges faced by refugeehosting nations.
In his address, Ambassador Ahmad underscored the pressing need for a more robust international commitment to effectively manage and support the rising numbers of displaced individuals worldwide.
