ISLAMABAD: Foreign Office Spokesperson Asim Iftikhar Ahmed has said Pakistan will continue taking steps, including engagements with the Afghan interim authorities and others, to have peaceful and stable borders.
Replying to a question at his weekly news briefing here in Islamabad on Friday, he said it is in the interest of the neighbouring countries to have peaceful and stable borders. He said counterterrorism is also a shared responsibility.
Regarding the threat of terrorism and cross border attacks, he said Pakistan has consistently raised such issues with the interim Afghan authorities and it is hoped that they will be taking steps to address these concerns.
The Spokesperson said Pakistan allowed transportation of wheat from India on the request of Afghan interim authorities. He said Pakistan wants a peaceful, stable, and prosperous Afghanistan and Islamabad will not like anyone playing a role of spoiler in this overall objective.
Responding a question regarding the illegal sentencing of Kashmiri Hurriyat leader Yasin Malik, Asim Iftikhar said Pakistan has reached out to OIC Secretary General, High Commissioner for Human Rights, and other fora. He said Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has written a letter to the UN Secretary General to raise this issue.
To another question, the Spokesperson said every government in Pakistan attaches immense importance to taking steps to reach out to overseas Pakistanis to engage them in a better way to improve consular access for resolution of their problems and issues.
