LARKANA:PPP, independents and anti-PPP candidates are working hard day and night to win the hearts of the residents to vote and support them in the upcoming local bodies elections scheduled to be held in Larkana district on 26th June.

Jameel Ahmed Soomro, political secretary to Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, GDA and Larkana Awami Ittehad leaders Dr. Safdar Ali Abbasi, Allama Rashid Mahmood Soomro, MPA Moazim Ali Abbasi are holding corner meetings separately in every nook and corner of the city and elsewhere to convince voters to vote for their candidates so that they could be served in a proper manner. Uplift works were carried out in Hyderi Town UC-II where Munir Ahmed Soomro, elder brother of Jameel Soomri is contesting for the post of Chairman as PPP candidate. He too is striving very hard to win the seat.

PPP has been carrying out development works in various areas which include constructing sewerage lines and laying pavers in the streets which they ignored in the past just to get votes despite a ban by the Election Commission of Pakistan on uplift works.

In Naundero, an old activist of PPP-SB Nisar Mirani joined the PPP on the condition that cemented pavers will be laid in the three streets of his Muhalla and in the next morning work was completed as his streets were ignored during the past 15 years of being their opponent. He further demanded that the animal husbandry hospital be converted into a girls school which stands encroached by habitual land grabbers despite apex court orders and he was promised that his demand will also be fulfilled. A Hindu shopkeeper withdrew his candidature as an independent candidate on minority seat on the condition that his two sons will be given jobs besides other things and he too was assured.

But the anti-PPP parties and independents have nothing to offer and they are contesting purely on respect they command in the society and commitments that their uplift works will be done on priority basis without any corruption, if they are elected. General perception among the residents of the district is that they will not go out of their homes on election day and remain confined to their houses hence it is expected that low turnout will be seen like that of recent Karachi by-election.
