The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has unveiled Gwadar as the host for the Player Draft of the 10th edition of the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL).
According to a PCB statement today, the highly-anticipated ceremony will take place on Saturday, January 11, 2025, with further details regarding its timing to be announced in due course.
The decision to host the draft in Gwadar underscores PCB’s commitment to promoting cricket in underrepresented regions and inspiring young talent in Balochistan to pursue the sport professionally.
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi hailed the move as a symbolic step towards showcasing Gwadar’s importance, both culturally and economically, while celebrating the unifying power of cricket.
‘Gwadar, with its breathtaking coastline and strategic significance, is a beacon of Pakistan’s economic future,’ he remarked. ‘Hosting the HBL PSL Player Draft here is an opportunity to highlight its potential while bringing the cricketing fraternity together in celebration of our nation’s favorite sport. I eagerly await welcoming franchises and stakeholders to Gwadar as we embark on the journey of HBL PSL’s 10th season.’
HBL PSL CEO Salman Naseer echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the league’s vision to extend its reach across Pakistan.
‘It is a moment of immense pride to announce Gwadar as the venue for this year’s Player Draft,’ he stated. ‘This initiative reflects our dedication to expanding the league’s footprint and showcasing Pakistan’s diverse beauty to the world.
‘HBL PSL is not just a cricket league; it is a testament to the passion, diversity, and talent of Pakistan. By bringing the draft to Gwadar, we aim to inspire young cricketers from Balochistan and beyond to dream big and see cricket as a viable professional path.’
Details regarding player retentions and the relegation process are expected to be announced by the end of December.
