Police baton charge young doctors; 10 injured, 25 arrested

QUETTA:Police on Wednesday injured 10 young doctors in baton charge and arrested 25 paramedics during their protest in the metropolis held for acceptance of their rights.

The police baton-charged the protesting young doctor in Quetta, after the protesters tried to enter the provincial capital’s red zone. Beaten black and blue, the young doctors and the paramedics shut down the emergencies in the city’s hospitals and later staged a sit-in near the Commissioner’s Office in Quetta. The protesting doctors once again announced to enter the red zone and vowed to continue their protest until their demands were met.

Young Doctors Association (YDA) have been on strike since over at moth, but the authorities have turned a deaf ear to the genuine demands of YDA. Doctors believe in resolving all the issues through parleys as more than 30 sessions had already been held with the negotiating committee constituted by Chief Minister Balochistan, Mir Abdul Quddus Bizenjo.

It may be noted that healthcare facilities across the province lack basic facilities, as neither there are medicines nor are essential instruments available in operation theatres of government run healthcare facilities of the province, according to YDA. The procurement of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) has not yet been ensured despite lapse of considerable period of time, it says.
