An off-duty police constable was injured by a gunshot to the head on Saturday morning in the city’s Buffer Zone, fired by three unidentified assailants on motorcycles, prompting an immediate police response and an investigation into the brazen attack.
The incident occurred at approximately 07:50 AM near Quetta Zakariya Cafe in Sector 15-B. Police Constable Asim, around 35 years old and stationed at Joharabad Police Station, was having breakfast with his friends when the attackers, dressed in shalwar kameez, passed by on two motorcycles.
After briefly entering a nearby street, the attackers returned. According to initial reports, the armed men panicked when people at the scene stood up, apparently fearing they would be caught. In response, one individual opened fire with a 30-bore pistol.
As a result of the firing, one bullet grazed Constable Asim’s forehead. Additional bullets hit the shutters of adjacent shops and a nearby wall. The attackers managed to escape from the scene after the attack.
Law enforcement personnel from the New Karachi Police Station promptly arrived at the scene, secured the area, and collected evidence. The injured officer was initially moved to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, and later transferred to Aga Khan Hospital for further treatment. Formal legal proceedings have been initiated.
Later in the day, SSP District Central Dr. Muhammad Imran Khan visited the injured constable at Aga Khan Hospital and inquired about his well-being. He confirmed that Constable Asim is conscious and communicating.
The SSP also met with the constable’s brother and friends, offering them the department’s full support. During his visit, he was briefed by the medical team on the officer’s condition.
The doctors reported that the bullet grazed the skin of his forehead, causing a fracture in the underlying bone. They confirmed that the constable’s condition is stable and he is out of danger.
SSP Khan issued instructions to provide the best medical facilities to Constable Asim. Other officials, including the SDPO New Karachi Division and SHO Joharabad Police Station, were also present during the hospital visit.
