Polling for 23 seats of Gilgit Baltistan Assembly concluded

Islamabad, November 15, 2020 (PPI-OT): In Gilgit Baltistan, polling for 23 seats of Gilgit Baltistan Assembly has been concluded on 5 pm today. The polling process which started at 8 am continued till 5 pm without any break. People of Gilgit Baltistan visited 1160 polling stations set up across Gilgit Baltistan and used their right of adult franchise. Gilgit Baltistan administration deployed over fourteen police and Punjab Rangers, Frontier Constabulary and GB Scouts for security and polling duty. Our Gilgit correspondent Sher Muhammad reports that no any untoward incident was reported from any part of GB.

Weather remained cloudy and remote valleys including Phander and upper Astore received first on the ground snowfall of winter. Caretaker Chief Minister Mir Afzal Khan cast his vote in college of education in Gilgit. He also visited Home department control room where Home secretary briefed him about security plan. He lauded role of GB administration for ensuring adequate security arrangements for election.

Chief Election Commissioner Raja Shah Baz Khan cast his vote in Basine polling station. He visited various polling stations and reviewed security and polling arrangement. He expressed his satisfaction over security measure and implementation on SOPs of COVID-19 to stop the pandemic. In an interview with our Gilgit correspondent he said hundred percent votes were polled in some Gilgit stations. Now counting of votes in polling station is in progress and results are being gathered.
