Polluted Water and Algae-Contaminated Tanks Force Quetta Plant Closures

The Balochistan Food Authority (BFA) on Wednesday escalated its enforcement campaign against substandard bottled water and illicit production facilities in Quetta, uncovering serious deficiencies including algae-fouled tanks and the distribution of contaminated drinking water.

A statement from a BFA Balochistan spokesperson confirmed that regulatory teams had sealed numerous water purification units across various areas of the provincial capital. Specifically, three reverse osmosis (RO) plants were shut down along Sariab Road, Patel Road, and in Satellite Town.

In parallel operations, five additional facilities had their operations halted in Nawa Killi, Chashma Achozai, and Hazara Town localities of Quetta. Furthermore, one unit was closed on Alamdar Road and Mekangi Road, where financial penalties were also imposed on two proprietors.

During these raids, significant concerns came to light, such as poor hygiene standards within the premises, water storage tanks contaminated with algae, and the evident supply of polluted water to consumers. Water samples have since been collected from different locations, with further actions anticipated pending the results of laboratory analysis.
