Power Generation Sees 11% Year-on-Year Growth in February 2026

Islamabad: Power generation in February 2026 experienced an 11% increase compared to the same period last year, reaching 7,696 gigawatt-hours (GWh). This growth contributes to a cumulative 3% year-on-year increase in power generation over the first eight months of the fiscal year, totaling approximately 84,194 GWh.

According to JS Global, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) reported that the average cost of power generation in February 2026 was Rs8.4 per kilowatt-hour (kWh), marking a 2% rise from the previous year. However, when compared to the previous month, the average cost showed a significant 31% decrease, largely due to an increase in hydel-based generation during February.

In terms of energy composition, hydel energy accounted for 23% of the power generation mix in February. This figure is notably lower than the typical summer average, which usually ranges from 35% to 40%.
