Prime Minister desires targeted subsidy system for poor

Islamabad, November 11, 2020 (PPI-OT): Prime Minister Imran Khan has directed to devise a mechanism for a targeted subsidy to especially benefit the destitute and backward areas as subsidy should only go to poor not rich. Minister for Information and Broadcasting Shibli Faraz, briefing media about decisions taken in the cabinet’s meeting with Prime Minister Imran Khan in the chair, said Prime Minister instructed to rationalize subsidies and evolve a comprehensive strategy, along with implementation timeframe, to ensure that deserving families get maximum benefit.

He said the cabinet also approved wheat support price at the rate of 1,650 rupees per 40 kilograms to enable common people to buy flour at affordable rates and farmers can get best price of their crops. The Cabinet also approved granting status of a registrant body to Trade Development Authority of Pakistan under Geographical Indications Act 2020 to enable it to register country’s products as Pakistani brands at the international level.

The cabinet, on the request of the Saudi Government, gave approval for the establishment of Digital Cooperation Organization, which will help promote mutual cooperation among the regional countries in the field of information technology. Information Minister said the Prime Minister also directed the National Command and Operation Center to formulate a strategy to combat the evolving situation of the coronavirus pandemic, without adversely impacting employment in the country.
