Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif receives a telephone call

Pakistan is immediately dispatching urgently needed humanitarian assistance to Sri Lanka, where the catastrophic Cyclone Ditwah has claimed hundreds of lives and displaced thousands, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif announced this evening.

The commitment was made during a telephone call with Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake today, in which Prime Minister Sharif expressed his profound grief over the devastating loss of life and widespread destruction.

During their warm and cordial conversation, the Prime Minister conveyed heartfelt condolences to the people and Government of Sri Lanka, especially the bereaved families who lost loved ones in the catastrophic floods and landslides.

Prime Minister Sharif also commended the swift response of Sri Lankan authorities, military personnel, and rescue teams for conducting relief operations under challenging conditions.

While recalling his own country”s vulnerability to climate-induced calamities, he reaffirmed that Pakistan stood in complete solidarity with Sri Lanka during this most challenging situation.

The Sri Lankan President expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister for the expression of solidarity and the provision of the generous humanitarian support. He appreciated that Pakistan was among the first countries to respond in the wake of the cyclone.

Recalling their previous meetings, the two leaders also expressed their shared commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation across all spheres.
