Karachi’s Mayor has initiated a high-level inquiry following serious allegations of misconduct levelled by the Karachi Contractors Association against officials within the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), placing the city administration’s procurement and tendering processes under intense scrutiny.
According to KMC information today, taking serious notice of the complaints, the Mayor emphasised that an open and competitive bidding system is a paramount priority for the metropolitan administration. The probe has been launched to uphold the principles of merit, fairness, and institutional integrity by thoroughly examining all aspects of the procurement procedures in question.
The investigation has been assigned to Municipal Commissioner KMC, Ms. Sumera Hussain, who has been directed to conduct a comprehensive and impartial review. The inquiry will meticulously examine all relevant procedures related to tendering, bidding, and procurement within the KMC.
The scope of the investigation includes assessing whether established regulations and standard operating procedures were adhered to and identifying if any irregularities or lapses occurred at any stage. To ensure swift action, the Municipal Commissioner is mandated to submit a detailed report within a tight three-day deadline.
This report is expected to deliver clear findings, factual assessments, and specific recommendations, if required, to further strengthen transparency and improve institutional processes.
The Mayor gave assurances to contractors, stakeholders, and the public that any individual found culpable for misconduct or rule violations will be dealt with in accordance with the law, without discrimination. It was also stated that if the allegations are found to be baseless, the facts will be officially recorded to protect the credibility of the organisation and its officials.
According to the Mayor, this inquiry reflects the administration”s resolve to promote confidence among investors and citizens, while ensuring that public resources are utilised in a fair, transparent, and accountable manner as part of its commitment to efficient municipal services.
