Promotion of healthy activities in developing countries is imperative: SAPM Zulfiqar A Bukhari

Islamabad, November 25, 2020 (PPI-OT): Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Overseas Affairs Zulfiqar Abbas Bukhari has said that promotion of healthy activities in developing countries is imperative and Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan is the most dynamic and physically active ruler in the world and the premier is also interested in promoting a healthy lifestyle in the country. He said that Commissioner Rawalpindi Division has set an example for the entire country by launching the Global Active Cities Pakistan project and it is an honour for the country that three districts of Rawalpindi Division have become part of the international framework under which sports and healthy lifestyle will be promoted in the society.

He said this while talking on the occasion of inauguration of Global Active Cities, Pakistan project in Rawalpindi Division. Cricket star Shoaib Akhtar, Commissioner Rawalpindi Captain (retd) Muhammad Mahmood, Deputy Commissioners of Rawalpindi, Attock and Chakwal, divisional administration officers and officials were also present on the occasion. On this occasion all the guests also participated in the fitness session. Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Zulfiqar Abbas Bukhari said that under the Global Active Cities project, sports would be promoted in Rawalpindi division and people would be encouraged towards healthy living.

“Our religion also teaches us to live a healthy life, and obesity, overeating and sluggishness are bad habits that have no place in our religion,” he said. Cricketer Shoaib Akhtar said that Captain (Retd) Muhammad Mahmood is an officer who likes sports and healthy lifestyle and he is the first commissioner of Rawalpindi who invited him in the commissioner’s office and got him exercised. He said that he used to walk from Dhok Kala Khan to Kachehri Chowk and when the situation improved to some extent, he used to ride a bicycle and this is the physical exertion that has been working for a lifetime.

Commissioner Rawalpindi Captain (Retd) Muhammad Mahmood said that with the help of Global Active Project, they want to introduce a culture that promotes a healthy lifestyle in the society. He said that there are many playgrounds in Rawalpindi and they would be further improved and equipped with more facilities under this project. Later, he also took pictures with the officers and staff of the Commissioner’s Office, Rawalpindi. Corona SOPs were strictly enforced on this occasion.
