Province Braces for Rain-Windstorm, Hailstorms and Gusty Conditions

Balochistan is bracing for a period of severe weather, including rain-windstorms, thunderstorms, and potential hailstorms with heavy downpours, across numerous areas over the next 24 hours, according to a forecast issued by the Meteorological Department Quetta Regional Centre. Strong gusty winds are also anticipated in southern and western parts of the province.

The regional weather office released a synoptic situation report on Friday, indicating that a westerly wave is currently impacting the northeastern regions of the province. While mainly dry or partly cloudy weather is expected over most areas, with hot conditions in plain regions during the daytime, the inclement weather is a significant concern.

Localised rain-windstorms and thunderstorms, possibly accompanied by hailstorms and heavy rainfall, are specifically predicted for Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qillah Abdullah, Qillah Saifullah, Noshki, Sherani, Musa Khel, Loralai, Harnai, Dukki, Zhob, Barkhan, Mastung, Kalat, Surab, Kachi, Jhal Magsi, Sibbi, Kohlu, and Dera Bugti.

Looking ahead to the next 48 hours, the Met Office forecasts mainly dry or partly cloudy weather across most districts. However, isolated rain-windstorms and thunderstorms, potentially featuring hailstorms or heavy falls, are expected in Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qillah Abdullah, Qillah Saifullah, Noshki, Zhob, Sherani, Musa Khel, Loralai, Harnai, Barkhan, Mastung, Kalat, Surab, Khuzdar, Kachi, Jhal Magsi, Sibbi, Kohlu, Dera Bugti, Naseerabad, Jaffarabad, Sohbatpur, and Usta Muhammed. Hot weather is also likely in the provincial plain areas, alongside gusty winds in the southern and western parts.

Over the past 24 hours, the department recorded minimal rainfall: Quetta RMC registered 1.4 mm, while Zhob, Samungli, and Sariab observed only a trace amount.

Minimum temperatures recorded during the last 24 hours included Kalat at 10.0°C, Zhob at 14.5°C, Barkhan at 15.0°C, Sariab at 15.5°C, Quetta at 16.0°C, RMC at 16.9°C, Samungli at 17.5°C, and Khuzdar at 18.0°C. Other locations experienced warmer conditions, with Gwadar at 19.0°C, Dalbandin, Lasbella, Panjgur, and Pasni all at 20.5°C, Ormara at 21.0°C, Jiwani and Uthal at 22.0°C, Usta Muhammad at 23.0°C, Turbat at 23.5°C, and Nokkundi and Sibbi both reaching 25.0°C.
