Provincial Food Minister Chairs Meeting to Finalize Wheat Procurement Policy for 2020-21 

Lahore, February 22, 2020 (PPI-OT):Provincial Food Minister Samiullah Chaudhary presided over a high-level meeting in order to give final shape to wheat procurement policy at Civil Secretariat in which salient features of wheat procurement policy 2020-21 came under review. Provincial Finance Minister Hashim Jawan Bakht, Agriculture Minister Nauman Ahmed Langrayal, Livestock and Dairy Development Minister Husnain Dareshak, Parliamentary Secretaries and Advisors of Food, Agriculture, Livestock, Additional Chief Secretary and Secretaries of Food and Finance Department also participated in the meeting. Samiullah Chaudhary while addressing the participants said that all provinces and federation should fulfil their responsibilities with regard to achieving wheat procurement target.

 

Food Department should initiate the procurement process in those areas where wheat is prepared early in different districts. Food Department should ensure the process of paying timely payments to the farmers through banks, he directed. Food Department should provide Complaint Centers and Toll-Free Numbers so as to timely redress the grievances of farmers, he added. Deputy Commissioners, Assistant Commissioners, District Food Controllers and officials of Food Department will perform their duties for attaining wheat procurement target. Provincial Ministers, Advisors and Secretaries will perform their duties for visiting wheat procurement centres in districts across the province, he maintained.

 

During the meeting with regard to wheat procurement challenges like locust attack, effects of climate change, possible price war, cash credit limits and federal guarantees were also being reviewed. Secretary Food gave a detailed briefing on matters comprising meeting 4.5 million metric ton wheat procurement target for the year 2020-21 and from 25th March purchasing of wheat, issuance of bardana and procurement price at the rate of 1365/ per mound will be maintained as well as delivery charges, cost of Jute bags, wheat supervisory committees and concerned market committees.
