A big rift appeared in the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) after the party brought a no-confidence motion against its own Punjab Assembly Deputy Speaker Dost Muhammad Mazari.

The Speaker of Punjab Assembly Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi on Wednesday withdrew all the powers assigned to Deputy Speaker Dost Mazari. According to details, on the issue of convening a session of the Punjab Assembly, the orders for the session by Deputy Speaker Punjab Assembly Dost Mazari were termed as ineffective and it was said that the steps to call on a session were illegal.

As per the spokesperson of the Punjab Assembly, the session will be held on April 16, while Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi withdrew all the powers assigned to the Deputy Speaker. There was no diary number or record of Deputy Speaker’s orders. Deputy Speaker summoned Punjab Assembly session on April 6.

The deputy speaker in his order said that instead of earlier announced date of April 16 at 11:30am, the next sitting of the 40th session of the Punjab Assembly will now be held on April 6 (today) at 7:30pm. In order to be elected as a chief minister in the 371-member house, a candidate will need at least 186 votes.

However, Punjab Assembly Deputy Speaker Dost Mazari asserted that he still could chair the session of the assembly despite a no-confidence motion against him. The entry of media in the Punjab Assembly has also been banned and the security people did not allow journalists to enter the building.

On the instructions of Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, a heavy contingent of police has been deployed outside the assembly secretariat to avoid any untoward situation. The security of the provincial legislature has also put-up barbed wires on the main gate of the assembly.
