Pakistan has taken what a senior official termed a “historic step” toward building a knowledge economy through new partnerships with prestigious UK institutions, aiming to connect the nation”s universities with international technology partners, venture funds, and accelerators.
At a ceremony attended by Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, a Memorandum of Understanding was formally signed between Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad, and the UK”s University of Cambridge to foster collaboration in Materials Science and Emerging Technologies.
The event also saw the finalization of a separate agreement between Cambridge Enterprise Ltd. and the Pakistan Institute for Development Economics, based in Islamabad.
The academic partnerships are designed to bolster Pakistan”s research capabilities, foster academic distinction, and augment international cooperation within key scientific disciplines.
Speaking on the occasion, Planning Minister Iqbal described the collaborations as a pivotal move that will help link Pakistan”s higher education institutions with the global innovation ecosystem.
