Regional Business Engagement Efforts with Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan Underway

Karachi: In a move to foster economic and trade collaboration, Mr. Atif Ikram Sheikh, President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) and the Economic Cooperation Organization's Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ECO-CCI), has announced efforts to enhance private-sector partnerships among ECO member states. This initiative follows recent high-level visits by leaders from Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan to Pakistan that aimed at strengthening ties.

According to Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Sheikh has formally extended invitations to the national chambers of commerce and industry of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan to participate in bilateral Joint Business Council meetings with FPCCI. These meetings are designed to promote trade and economic cooperation, facilitating regional connectivity and shared prosperity.

Mr. Sheikh explained that the proposed meetings will review the current state of bilateral trade relationships, evaluate progress and opportunities from recent high-level engagements, and identify key sectors for future investment. The initiative also includes plans for organizing Business-to-Business (B2B) meetings, hosting single-country exhibitions, and promoting trade delegation exchanges to strengthen business community ties.

The FPCCI President has communicated with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan’s National Chamber of Entrepreneurs "Atameken," emphasizing the importance of structured institutional engagement to turn political goodwill into concrete economic outcomes.

Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, both active members of the ECO, are expected to benefit from closer coordination among ECO member chambers. Mr. Sheikh highlighted that such cooperation is vital for enhancing regional connectivity, promoting intra-regional trade, and advancing economic integration across the ECO region.

The FPCCI has reiterated its commitment to working alongside ECO CCI member chambers to create new business opportunities and bolster regional economic cooperation.
