LARKANA: Sindh Abadgar Board in its meeting held here on Saturday has demanded to drain out stagnant flood water from the agricultural lands immediately to enable the growers to sow wheat crop for which seed should be supplied to the farmers.
Presided over by their provincial chief Mahmood Nawaz Shah through video link, the meeting further decided that growers and farmers should be compensated for the losses they have undergone during the rains/floods. They demanded that de-silting of watercourses, canals, irrigation channels and drains must be carried out immediately and infrastructure should be restored. They said they will chalk out further lines of action in the press conference on Monday or Tuesday.
They said that four million acres of agricultural lands have been submerged into rainwater or flood water due to which rice and vegetable crops have been damaged in Sindh and due to non-draining of water 70% wheat and vegetable crops will be less produced and they also feared surfacing of food security/shortage issues in Sindh in future.
They demanded the announcement of agricultural policy immediately and resolution of growers’ problems. The meeting was also attended by Irfan Jatoi of Larkana and Khalid Khoso of Kambar-Shahdadkot districts and others.
