SACFPHR organises Kashmir conference in London

London, March 24, 2018 (PPI-OT): South Asia Centre for Peace and Human Rights (SACPHR), UK, organised an interactive Kashmir Conference “Commonwealth Summit and Role of Kashmiri Diaspora”. The Mayor of Luton, Chaudhry Mohammed Ayub, chaired the event. In his opening remarks the Mayor said as a member of the Kashmiri diaspora, the Kashmir cause is very dear to him. This council, he maintained, has adopted two unanimous cross-party resolutions to support the Kashmiris’ demand for right to self-determination.

He described Commonwealth Summit as a great opportunity for the Kashmiri diaspora to highlight the need to resolve the lingering Kashmir dispute. The SACFPHR Chairman, Professor Nazir Ahmed Shawl, briefed the participants about the latest situation in occupied Kashmir. He also informed the participants about the various programmes and activities that have been set in motion in connection with the Commonwealth Summit.

He asked the councillors to play an active role in convincing their respective members of the parliament to get in touch with Commonwealth and foreign office and approach the Foreign Affairs Committee and Human Rights Committee of the UK Parliament to bring into focus the grim situation in occupied Kashmir.

The Chairman of International Commission for Human Rights (ICHR) and Permanent Representative of International Human Rights Association of American Minorities (IHRAAM) at UN in Geneva, Barrister Abdul Majeed Trumboo lambasted all those people who wittingly and unwittingly try to equate India and Pakistan. Others who expressed their views included former Mayors Councillor, Councillor Riaz Butt, Councillor Wahid Akber, Councillor Raja Saleem, Councillor Raja Aslam, Councillor Hussain, Muzamil Thakur, Amjad Abbasi, Mumtaz Butt and Siddique Rathore.
