Security alliance among Muslim countries is the need of the hour: PDP

Pasban Democratic Party Chairman Altaf Shakoor has termed the immediate formation of a security alliance among Muslim countries as “the most important need of the hour,” citing a global environment where international laws are being openly violated and the “law of power” has taken over the system of justice.

In a statement issued from the Pasban Press Information Cell on Wednesday, Mr. Shakoor pointed to the recent attack on Iran by Israel and the United States, which he described as an attack during diplomatic negotiations and a blatant violation of the United Nations and international laws.

The chairman stressed that the oil-rich Muslim countries have become an easy target for world powers due to a lack of mutual unity.

He urged Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Turkey, Indonesia, Bangladesh, the United Arab Emirates, and Pakistan, among others, to form a joint security alliance. He suggested it could be named “Muslim NATO” to provide a strong defensive umbrella against external aggression, highlighting the key roles of Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey in its establishment.

Mr. Shakoor welcomed a similar proposal from Iran for a regional alliance, endorsing the idea that regional countries should end their reliance on external powers for security. He argued that US military bases in Gulf countries have failed to ensure peace and stability, further emphasizing the urgent need for a new Muslim security pact.

Warning of an era of “oil wars,” he claimed that the United States, after targeting Venezuela’s resources, is now eyeing Iran’s oil and gas, and the next target could potentially be Arab countries. He implored Muslim countries to “come to their senses immediately.”

The PDP chairman lamented the inactivity of platforms like the Regional Cooperation for Development (RCD), calling it a major loss and demanding their revival with new energy. He argued that a strong regional economic bloc would not only stabilize economies but also pave the way for a defense alliance based on common interests.

Concluding his statement, Mr. Shakoor called on all Muslim countries to establish a comprehensive security and economic alliance without delay to effectively counter the hostility of world powers and strengthen their collective supply chains for a competitive edge.
