Seminar Flags Urgent Dengue Threat, Emphasizes Prevention

An engaging seminar on “Dengue Awareness and Prevention” held at the NUST Islamabad campus today highlighted the growing public-health challenge posed by dengue fever and stressed practical steps to curb its spread.

The session aimed to educate faculty, officers, staff and students about the mosquito-borne illness, focusing on recognition, risk reduction and community-level measures to limit transmission. Organizers billed the event as an opportunity to translate technical guidance into campus action.

Mr Malik Muhammad Qasim Sujra, District Entomologist and Dengue Incharge Islamabad at the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination, led the program. He outlined the different types of dengue virus, described how the disease spreads, and reviewed evidence-based prevention methods.

Sujra emphasized vector management and personal protection, including environmental sanitation to remove breeding sites, timely reporting of suspected cases, and heightened vigilance during peak transmission periods. He also discussed control strategies used by public-health authorities to contain outbreaks.

Participants were briefed on the importance of early detection and coordinated responses between institutions and health agencies. The seminar sought to equip the university community with actionable knowledge to reduce mosquito habitat and limit exposure.

Organizers said the interactive format encouraged questions and practical discussion, aiming to turn awareness into sustained preventive practices across campus.
